The majority of fillings carried out at Holly Dental Practice are tooth coloured (or composite) fillings. Small holes and fractures can often be repaired with a simple filling, and these can be expected to last from 5 to 15 years.

How is it done?

The fractured surface or decay is cleaned and removed from the tooth. In most circumstances, a band (or matrix) is placed around the tooth in order to re-establish a contact point. The tooth is then etched with a gel to micro-clean the surface, and then sealed with a resin which will help to bond the filling to the tooth. After choosing a correct shade to match the tooth, the dentist will then build up the filling in increments to closely match the original contour, shade, and anatomy or the original tooth. The fillings will then be finely contoured and polished to ensure they do not affect the bite on the rest of the teeth.
